NON-ACADEMIC CLASSES/WORKSHOPS

The John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center regularly hosts classes and workshops on a number of small business topics for UNI students, faculty, staff and recent graduates (1 year or less). (Sorry, non-UNI-affiliated businesses will need to contact our partner, the UNI Regional Business Center/Small Business Development Center at 319-236-8123 for their small business classes.) Selected Topics for Students, Faculty, & Staff Fall 2009 Workshops include:

  • Wednesday, September 9, 3:30-5:30 p.m., BCS 33 - Elevator Pitch Workshop - Learn how to craft and present an elevator pitch for your business

  • Monday, September 21, 3-5 p.m., BCS 33 - How to Start a Business I - Learn the basics of starting a small business including business structure, taxes, and resources.

  • Wednesday, September 23, 3-5 p.m., BCS 33 - How to Start a Business II - Format, content, and strategies for an effective business plan are covered. Content from Workshop I required.

  • Saturday, October 10, 9 a.m.to 1 p.m., BCS 33 How to Start a Small Business I and II -- Learn the basics of starting a small business including business structure, taxes, and resources and the format, content, and strategies for an effective business plan.

  • Tuesday, October 20, 3:30-5:30 p.m., BCS 33 - How to Start a Business I - Learn the basics of starting a small business including business structure, taxes, and resources.

  • Thursday, October 22, 3:30-5:30 p.m., BCS 33 - How to Start a Business II - Format, content, and strategies for an effective business plan are covered. Content from Workshop I required.

  • Monday, November 16, 3-5 p.m., BCS 33 Business Idea Generation and Opportunity Assessment Workshop

  • Wednesday, November 18, 3-5 p.m., BCS 33 Marketing for Your Small Business Workshop

We will not be offering Basic Bookkeeping this semester. All classes are free to UNI students, faculty, and staff unless otherwise noted. The series is supported and sponsored by the UNI John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center.

The University of Northern Iowa has several academic classes offered each semester in entrepreneurship. Some entrepreneurship classes are part of the Certificate programs and some are not.

  • 130:186 Studies in Experiential Learning - 3 hours - With approval of project by the JPEC and the Head of the Marketing Department.
