About Us - Overview

We guide organizations and community-based groups, and help ease their way, as they make decisions and take organized action toward economic-and-community-development results. Our team typically serves and advises economic development corporations, chambers of commerce, convention and visitors bureaus, community planning groups, and other similar groups and organizations.

Our team is a visionary, valued, and flexible partner in Iowa's quest for economic growth and improved quality of life. With practicality and innovation, we adapt quickly to changes and trends and consistently raise standards in economic- and community-development practice. We are active leaders for economic development in Iowa and beyond.
~ A Key part of our "vision"

IDM is a unit of the University of Northern Iowa's Business and Community Services Division, which is included in the College of Business Administration. In addition to serving communities, we expand learning experiences for the University community and for professionals and volunteers by sharing expertise and by organizing professional educational opportunities. IDM was established in 1987.

We operate through a blended budget of State of Iowa funds, partnership fees, and fees for services.

As a community or a development organization in Iowa, you can form a "partnership" with us, the value of which significantly exceeds the direct cost to the community because the partnerships are subsidized by state resources. Please e-mail or phone LaDene Bowen (319-273-6941) for more information or see the "Partnership Program" portion of this Web site.

We who are IDM bring varied backgrounds to our service to Iowa's communities. Use the "Who We Are" link in the "About Us" section to explore brief biographies of our team, to initiate e-mails, or to note telephone numbers.

Follow the "About US" link at the top of the page to read issues of our Economic Development Update newsletter or review selected presentations.
