Iowa Waste Reduction Center
The Iowa Waste Reduction Center (IWRC) assists Iowa small businesses in complying with environmental regulations through free and confidential environmental consultation. Programs

  • On-Site Review - Helps businesses comply with environmental regulations. An environmental specialist tours the facility and provides a confidential report to the business about the facility’s environmental conditions.
  • Iowa Air Emissions Assistance Program - Assists businesses with air emission regulations and permit requirements
  • Iowa Waste Exchange - Helps businesses reduce, reuse and recycle waste material
  • STAR4Defense - Trains military spray technicians through a hands-on, customized training program
  • LaserPaint and VirtualPaint - Trains spray paint technicians by using laser and virtual reality technologies that improve effectiveness and avoid hazardous operations


  Materials Innovation Service
The Material Innovation Service (MIS) provides low-cost, reliable consulting services for small- to medium-sized Iowa manufacturing companies with regards to product development and materials innovation. MIS works to link University of Northern Iowa resources and Iowa manufacturing companies to increase the use of recycled materials and reduce the amount of waste generated within these companies’ manufacturing processes.

  National Ag-Based Lubricants Center
The National Ag-Based Lubricant Center (NABL) provides expert testing services for biobased lubricants, greases and biofuels. NABL is recognized nationally as a technical service organization offering closed-loop expertise focusing on biobased lubricants.

  Recycling and Reuse Technology Transfer Center
The Recycling and Reuse Technology Transfer Center (RRTTC) is an interdisciplinary research, education and outreach center working to solve solid waste problems and providing research and assistance on concerns related to solid waste. The RRTTC works toward environmental sustainability by working with businesses, Iowa citizens and Regent University researchers and students.

  Sustainable Tourism & Environment Program
Sustainable Tourism & Environment Program (STEP) assists government agencies, non-governmental organizations and special interest groups with their tourism development efforts. STEP promotes tourism planning and policy in Iowa which supports beneficial social, cultural and environmental relationships in the tourism development process and facilitates the use of sustainable practices within the existing tourism industry.

  Tallgrass Prairie Center
The Tallgrass Prairie Center develops research, techniques, education and source-identified seed for restoration and preservation of native vegetation. Programs of the Tallgrass Prairie Center include the Prairie Institute, the Integrated Roadside Vegetation Management Program and the Iowa Ecotype Project.
